Congratulations to freshman Joey McBride for being recognized as an at-large SUNY Scholar Athlete Award winner for outstanding performance as a Men's Tennis student-athlete during the 2023 season!
McBride led the Men's Tennis Team throughout the 2023 season from the 1st singles / 1st doubles positions. McBride avenged two regular season 1st singles losses to SCC with a three-set victory at regionals to earn the individual Regional Championship and a spot in the National Championship Tournament. At Nationals, McBride won the 1st singles backdraw and, with the help of teammate Simon Ho, finished second in the 1st doubles backdraw. Academically, McBride who maintains a 3.85 overall GPA, was named to the All-Region Academic team and was nominated for an NJCAA Academic All-American award for his efforts in the 2023 semester on and off the court.

The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognizes a combination of outstanding academic and athletic success in 29 different Sports. The NJCAA Category features the 29 two-year community colleges spread out across the state of New York. Over 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards which are presented three times a year to coincide with the specific sports contested in the fall, winter and spring seasons.Â
