FIT ATHLETIC FACILITIES RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • FIT maintains athletic facilities including two fitness centers on campus, the Lari and Barbara Stanton Fitness Center (located in the Dubinsky Student Center on the sub basement level) and the Kaufman Fitness Center (located in Kaufman Hall on the basement level).  Athletic facilities on the Dubinsky Student Center sub basement level also include dance and yoga studios, and two gymnasiums which provide opportunities to participate on Athletics teams, recreational sports and group fitness classes.
  • FIT recreational programs and athletic facilities are available to all registered FIT commuter students and resident students.  For more information, see the Fitness Center Schedule and Group Fitness Class Information
  • FIT recreational programs and facilities are open to FIT employees on a more limited basis.  FIT employees should consult the Fitness Center Schedule to learn the particular hours they may utilize the Stanton Fitness Center.  FIT employees are welcome to participate in group fitness classes as long as space allows after all students have been accommodated first.
  • Users must show a valid FIT ID card with up-to-date sticker to enter the facility.
  • Users are required to sign-in and accept these rules and regulations at each visit.
  • Users who utilize the fitness centers or participate in group fitness classes do so at their own risk. FIT is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Medical clearance before participating in an exercise program is highly recommended.
  • An Athletics Staff member or instructor must be present at all times when any room of the athletic facility is in use.  Users will not be permitted to use rooms of the athletic facility unsupervised by an Athletics Staff member or instructor outside of times scheduled for use. 
  • Proper athletic attire, including athletic shoes or sneakers must be worn at all times. Sandals, flip flops, slides, open-toe shoes, open-back shoes, boots, high heels, crocs, jeans and jean shorts are NOT permitted.
  • Food, gum, smoking, tobacco products, alcohol, drugs, and vaping are not permitted.
  • Only sealed, non-glass liquid containers are permitted.
  • Personal effects, including bags and other items, must be stored in lockers and are not allowed within any room in the athletic facility.
  • Please keep track of your belongings. Do not place items in unlocked lockers or leave items unattended in the locker room. Athletics Staff is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
  • Athletic facility lockers are for day use only, while using the athletic facility. Users must remove all items and locks from lockers prior to departing the athletic facility. Locks left on lockers by individuals not using the athletic facility, or any locks left on lockers overnight, may be clipped and contents removed at the discretion of the Athletics Department with the assistance of FIT Public Safety. 
  • Photography, video recording and video chats are not permitted in any room of the athletic facility. 
  • Personal earbuds must be used.  Any type of audio played out loud is not permitted.

FITNESS CENTER ETIQUETTE

  • Users are required to wipe down cardio and weight room equipment after each use. Disinfecting wipes are provided.
  • Other users must be allowed to “work in” between sets.
  • Return weights to the tree or rack.
  • Weights or dumbbells may not be dropped on the floor or benches.
  • During busy times or whenever someone is waiting for a machine, you must observe the 30 MINUTE TIME LIMITS on all cardiovascular equipment.

VIOLATION OF ATHLETIC FACILITIES  RULES & REGULATIONS 

  • Athletics Staff on duty is ultimately responsible for enforcing all rules, regulations, and procedures. 
  • In addition to Fitness Center rules and regulations, users are also subject to the FIT Code of Student Conduct (if a student) and / or FIT’s Employee Code of Ethical Conduct (if an employee).  
  • All Athletics Staff members, including student staff, have authority to enforce rules and regulations and their authority is to be respected by all users. 
  • If at any time a user does not comply with Fitness Center Rules / Regulations or FIT's conduct policies, as applicable, the user will be issued a verbal warning and asked to comply. 
  • If the user refuses to comply after receiving a verbal warning, they will be asked to leave.
  • If the user refuses to leave, Public Safety will be called for assistance.
  • If a user is asked to leave for failure to comply with a rule or regulation after being issued a warning, or if a user acts in any other extremely inappropriate or unsafe manner, the matter will be referred to the Athletic Director and / or Dean of Students (if the user is a student) or to Human Resources (if the user is an FIT employee).
  • The user will not be welcome to return to the fitness center or participate in any recreation activity again until the matter has been resolved by the Athletic Director, Dean of Students or Human Resources.
