(Garden City, NY) The Tigers kicked off their 2015 season this past Saturday at Eisenhower Park in Long Island. FIT spent no time giving mercy to any teams, as they came out of the day 8-1.
The singles started off with veteran
Spenser Corson. Corson matched up with Nassau's Angela Lupos. After a close and competitive round, loosing 7-5, she fell in the second game 6-2. New comer Corinn hakanson faced Jada Pollack, and got the team off of a winning foot from the beginning, crushing 6-0, 6-0.
Rachel Edwards played Kiana Rennau, and sealed the deal 6-0, 6-0, adding another two wins on for the Tigers. True freshman,
Alexandra Krynyckyi, went up against Daphne La Rouche, also sweeping up 6-0, 6-0. Kiki Brooks and
Maia Sepulveda won via forfeit as NCC could not provide any opponents.
As for doubles, the number one doubles team consisted of Corson/Hakanson. They went face to face with Lupos/Pollack from Nassau. Nassau made them work for their win, but they captured the W, 8-5. Brooks/Krynyckyi faced Rouche/Rennau and kept them scoreless, finishing 8-0. The third doubles was a forfeit from Nassau.
The Tigers were feeling very confident leaving the courts after their first match of the season. FIT finished 3rd in the country last year, and the national poll projections have them returning to finish in top 5 again.Â
Today's numbers proved that they are just getting started on their season, and that the future looks very bright for the Tigers. Be sure to stay tuned as they compete on Sunday at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY.
