HOLYOKE, Mass. – The FIT Tigers women's soccer team showed grit and determination over the weekend at the Cougar Classic, hosted by Holyoke Community College, facing a tough Central Maine Community College squad in back-to-back matches.
In Saturday's contest, FIT came out strong as Rita opened the scoring just eight minutes into the match, giving the Tigers early momentum. Central Maine equalized 20 minutes later, and an own goal late in the first half put FIT under pressure heading into halftime. Despite resilient play, the Mustangs capitalized on late opportunities, netting three goals off set pieces in the final eight minutes to seal a 5-1 victory.
Sunday's matchup brought another hard-fought effort in sweltering conditions. Central Maine struck first 25 minutes into the match and added an insurance goal in the closing minutes, earning a 2-0 win despite strong defensive efforts from the Tigers.
