ALBANY, N.Y. – The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) proudly announces that Nico Korten and Isabel Marshall, members of the swimming team, have earned the prestigious SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. This award highlights their exceptional achievements both in the pool and in the classroom.

The SUNY Scholar-Athlete Awards recognize student-athletes from SUNY colleges and universities that sponsor intercollegiate athletics at the four- and two-year levels. Honorees are nominated and selected by representatives of their respective institutions, based on cumulative grade point average, athletic and academic honors, and both current and career statistics.

The SUNY Scholar-Athlete Awards honor outstanding academic and athletic success across 29 different sports, and are presented three times annually to coincide with fall, winter, and spring sports seasons. Scholar-Athletes of the Year in each sport are then nominated for the overall Scholar-Athlete of the Year award—one each for men's and women's sports—which will be announced in mid-July.

Korten, a Fine Arts major with a 3.73 GPA, delivered a strong season for the Tigers. At the 2025 NJCAA Region III Northeast District Championships, he earned three podium finishes, including third-place finishes in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard IM events. At the National Championships, he posted personal bests in both the 100-yard and 200-yard IM races.

Marshall, a Photography and Related Media major with a 3.68 GPA, had an outstanding 2025 campaign. At the Region III Northeast District Championships, she claimed titles in the 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard butterfly, and 100-yard freestyle, and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle. At the National Championships, she was a finalist in two events: the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle.
