The FIT volleyball team swept Union County College 3-0 in their season opener (25-18, 25-11, 25-14) on Thursday evening. The Tigers pushed ahead early in the first set. Sophomore libero
Vanessa Jacobs went on a 9 point service run, giving the team an commanding 13-1 lead. This set the tone for the rest of the match. The Tigers were able to maintain this momentum for the following two sets.
Over the three sets, the Tigers recorded 13 aces, four of which were dished out by Jacobs. Making their collegiate debuts, freshmen setters
Abigail Miller and
Megan Kelly handed out eight assists each. Kelly also paced the Tigers with six kills, along with
Stephanie Berdon and
Alexis Penichet who both logged five kills.
The season began with a strong performance for the Tigers (1-0). They return to play on Thursday, September 6th against Bergen Community College.
