Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Carrie Godas

W. Soccer Tough Loss to NCC

(Nassau, NY) The FIT Tigers played thier first regional game on a bright clear afternoon. They faced NCC on the NY Cosomos field at Mitchell Field complex. The weather and field conditions were perfect for a soccer match and the ladies showed up ready play.

The first half featured a lot of back and forth in the middle third of te field.  FIT's Goalie, Samantha Berger, made some key saves in the early stages of the game to keep the Tigers in it. The back line played strong, although NCC had many attempts at goal and breakaways, the defensive back four, made up of Lauren Fremgen and Rosie Witherell, Meagan Hilton and Emily Sheehan, we were able to step up and play aggressively against the Nassau attack. However, Nassau was able to break through the midfield and defense with a great pass to a forward who was able to capitalize on her shot, resulting in a 1-0 lead for Nassau at halftime.

During the second half, Nassau came out hard and scored right away making it 2-0.  Forwards Katelyn Prinz and Kirsten Henning played well together and made good runs splitting the defense. Unfortunately, the two forwards received injuries during the second half and needed to be subbed out. Luckily, Dvorah Elster and senior Kesha Gorjia, were able to step up and fill in. Though the Tigers fought hard in the second half, Nassau was able to capitalize twice more, making the final score 3-0.

Over all it was a good game and the Tigers had definitely made some improvements since the last time they took the field. Both teams fought hard until the end, but we still have things to work and improve on. At the end of the game, Coach Bevivino had this to say: "The team played well today against a very physical team.  The score line unfortunately doesn't reflect the play of game, Nassau is always competitive.  Again I saw a huge improvement today, this is only our second time on a field, we will mesh, it will just take time."

The FIT Tigers will take the field again next Sunday, September 13 at Kings borough College where they will face KCC for the first time this season.
