(Suffolk, NY) The FIT Tigers played their third game of the season on a hot and sunny afternoon. They faced SCC at the Seldon campus field. The weather and field conditions were perfect for a soccer match and the ladies showed up ready play.
The first half had the Tigers playing a more defensive game, keeping the defensive line on their toes. The back four played strong, Â
Lauren Fremgen and
Rosie Witherell,
Karina Demirciyan and
Emily Sheehan, we were able to step up and play aggressively against the Sharks counter attack. Suffolk got an early first goal from striker who chipped the ball past Freshman goalie
Samantha Berger. Â The Tigers were able to tie the game a few minutes later when senior
Lauren Fremgen delivered a perfect ball off a corner kick that  mid-fielder Hunter Welford was able to put past the Suffolk keeper. However, late in the first half the Suffolk attack was again able to break through the midfield and defense on a transition and put another ball into the net.
The second half was all FIT. Â The defense stepped up not allowing anything to get by them, and keeping the goal scoring from the Sharks to 0. Â
Katelyn Prinz and
Kirsten Henning, put the pressure on the back line of the Suffolk Defense and continuly found themselves just off the mark. Â Mid-fielders
Meagan Hilton and
Stephanie Dootz played well and made key plays that gave the Tigers opportunities to go forward. Unfortunately, the tigers couldn't finish the ball during the second half, making the final score 2-1.Â
Over all it was a good game and the Tigers had definitely made some improvements but there are still things that need to be worked on. "Suffolk is a good team and they are able to move the ball and play well together. I know that the girls played hard today against a good team and even though we didn't walk away with a win today it was a close game and the Tigers were in it; now we know what we need to work on for the win."
