Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Carrie Godas

Howard CC over takes the Tigers

(Brooklyn, NY) For the Tigers' first home game at Kingsborough CC this season, they faced Howard Community College for their third non-region game. The girls showed up ready to play, despite tired and sore legs from the game and long trip the day before. It was a great day for playing and a good game to watch, as the Tigers took on the Dragons.

The Tigers had gone with a new formation this game, and it played to their advantage well during the first half. The girls were playing a more defensive first half due to the high pressure that the Dragons were putting on the Tigers. Our defensive line stayed strong as always, plus with the addition of an extra mid-fielder, the girls were able to keep the Dragons at bay. Outside defender Emily Sheehan was unable to make it through the first half, but Dvorah Elster stepped up and did a great job filling in for Sheehan. The Dragons were able to capitalize on opportunities and small mistakes, making the score 3-0 at half-time.

During the second half of the game, the Tigers had more opportunities on net and were able to move the ball up field to our one forward, Kirsten Henning. Defender Meagan Hilton however, was able to stop two breakaways by sprinting back and shielding the Dragons off the ball and clearing to our outside midfielders. It was more of a back and forth game in the middle of the field during the second half. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net and the Dragons were able to score twice more, making the final score 5-0.
The Tigers played tough against a great team. There was a lot of back and forth towards the end of the game and the Tigers played well for the full 90 minutes. There is still room for improvements, especially with the new formation, but the Tigers will work hard and bounce back for the game next weekend. Assistant Coach Briana Marquit had this to say about the game; "The girls worked hard and it showed out there today. We need to get more comfortable with our new formation and we will work on and fix the small mistakes, but once we do we will be able to really take it to the teams in our region."

The Tigers next game will be next Sunday against Nassau CC. The game will be at Kingsborough Community College at 2pm.
