(Northampton, PA) The FIT Tigers Volleyball Team competed in their season opener against Northampton University this weekend in Northampton County, PA.

The first game was arguably the toughest for the Tigers, seeing as they faced the home team on their turf. But, of course, the Tigers came out with claws ready and prepared to dominate. In the first set, they fought tooth and nail, going back and forth between the Spartans, but fell short, loosing 25:21. In the second set the Tigers struggled with passing and really had to regroup to pull it together. It was difficult to catch up, and the Tigers suffered a loss 25:16. Jenna Dickey smashed 7 kills, and Cassandra Burdick posted 12 assists against Northampton University .  

On to the second game of the tournament, the Tigers faced Monroe College. FIT came out strong and confident but couldn't seal the deal and fell, 25:19. Going into the second set, the Tigers took an early lead, but were not consistent enough in passing, resulting in a lost of 25:20. Venessa Bennish came up with 4 digs against Monroe College. 

The third opponent FIT faced was Sandhills Community College. In the first set, the team started to show progress and playing strategically, but suffered a loss, 25:18. The second was gold for the Tigers. They swept up, winning 25:14. Both teams played really well in the third set, and unfortunately the Tigers just couldn't find that last kill to seize the game. It was a tough loss at 15:13. Jenna Dickey posted an awesome 9 kills, along with teammate Taj Cutting who noted 4 kills. 

FIT played their final game against Ocean Community College. After losing the first set 25:18, they rallied hard, and came back in the second set to win 25:23! In the end, the Tigers faced a lot of trouble getting the ball over the net, and ended up loosing 15:4. Arianna Sauvage highlighted with 4 kills and 2 blocks for the final game of the day. 

Day two at the Northhampton University Tournament began similarly as the previous day, with a match against the Northampton Spartans. The FIT Tigers lost the last game, 25:16 and 25:19. Jenna Dickey posted 3 kills and 3 digs. Way to go girl!

The Tigers faced some stiff competition out on the court this weekend. This was a great starting point, and with time and practice the team will get in their own groove of working together. So be sure to stay tuned for when the Tigers travel to BMCC next Saturday. You won't want to miss it!!
