(Brookhaven, NY) The FIT Tigers played their final regular season matches this weekend at Suffolk Community College. The Tigers were coming off of a 9 game winning streak, and felt invincible.
For the first game the Tigers faced Suffolk Community College on their home turf. FIT started off strong, and their contagious positive energy filled the gym. They took the first set (25:12). Moving on to the second set, the Tigers faltered slightly and tacked on a couple of errors. They fought until the very end, but didn't have enough to pull ahead, and fell to the Sharks (25:20). Suffolk tried to use their second set win to take control of the game, but as we all know, the Tigers do not go down without a fight. A few great digs and a little consistency and the Tigers snagged the third win, (25:19). FIT lead the entire fourth set, and buried the Sharks (25:21)! Leading the team was
Julia Corbett scoring 11 kills, and teammate,
Taj Cutting, wasn't far behind tallying 10 kills.
Moving on to the second game, the Tigers went up against Nassau Community College. The Tigers were feeling pretty confident as the last time they went head to head with Nassau they defeated them 3-1. FIT takes no time to get down to business, as they seal the first set (25:21). Feeling a little too comfortable, the Tigers got a little sloppy with their serves, and had trouble returning Nassau's cannon serves, leading them to drop the second set (25:22). The road did not get any easier for the Tigers as they struggled to communicate on the court, and lost their mojo in the third and fourth sets, loosing (25:13), (25:18). The Tigers left the day splitting it evenly 4-4.
Jenna Dickey lead the team recording 10 kills.
Head Coach
Danial Levent commented after the game, "Although loosing against Nassau was a tough couple losses, it has helped us realize what we need to fine tune for the playoffs on Thursday. I know every woman on this team has it in them to win, and I am confident that we will come together, and get the job done to move on to the Semi-Finals."
