Seniors Close Out BMCC on Their Last Hurrah at Home

(New York, NY) FIT hit the floor Thursday night matching up against the Borough of Manhattan Community College for a second go but this time, FIT has the home court advantage. This night was more than just a typical Thursday game, for those with seniority on the team, it was one of the most treasured nights of the season: Senior Night. The five Seniors that were recognized were #2 Taj Cutting, #8 Jenna Dickey, #9 Julia Corbett, #12 Darina Relyea, and #17 Stephanie Perpepaj. Tiger Nation packed the gym to the brim last night to show support for the Tigers last home game of the 2015 season. The energy in the gym was through the roof, and it only added to the excitement that rolled off the Tigers.

The last time the Tigers went up against BMCC at their house, they swept them 3-0. It was obvious that BMCC was ready to put up a fight but even more obvious that FIT was going to defend their title no matter what.

The Tigers started out solid in the first set. They were passing well, serving to a tea, and had driving kills into the floor on BMCC's side. They sewed up the first set (25:17).

Going into the second set, the Tigers really focused in and only let 12 points past them. They bagged the win, (25:12), and kept their eyes on the prize.

Moving on to the third set, the Tigers really pumped the energy, especially from the Seniors. The ladies were in a serious groove and went for every dig and kill they could. They lead the entire set, and closed the series winning (25:14)!

Having a slight case of deja vu, the Tigers finished 3-0 again, leaving them 22-8 for the season. Victory was tasting pretty darn sweet to the Tigers last night.

Leading on the score board was Jenna Dickey coming in with 19 kills, Cassandra Burdick tallying 27 assists, and Hannah Edwards who snagged 22 digs.

We would like to give a special shoutout to the FIT Dance Team who performed between the first and second set. They really added to the magic of the night!

The Seniors closed their last night in the Main Gym in style, and Coach Danial Levent couldn't have been more proud. "These Seniors have given more to this team, than I could have ever imagined. We have developed these young ladies into fine athletes and leaders. The freshman below them look up to them immensely, and they will never be forgotten. I can't thank them enough for their valiant efforts over the years and giving their hearts to every single game."

This Saturday the Tigers will be back on ready to charge Nassau and Suffolk at Suffolk. They hope to finish two of the last four regular season games in fashion before getting into the nitty gritty of the Region Quarter finals on 10/29. You won't want to miss another game, so stay tuned!
