(Brooklyn, NY) On this brisk fall day, the FIT Tigers did not just show up to play, but also showed their support for the fight against breast cancer. Both FIT and Suffolk showed their support by wearing pink jerseys, pink socks and pink hair ribbons and the girls came together at the start of the game for such a great cause. It didn't, however distract from the play of the game. It was the second time the Sharks and the Tigers faced off, and both teams came out hard and ready to play.
During the first half of the game, there was a lot of back and forth play in the mid-field. Suffolk had the ball in our defensive half for a short period, but with a strong defensive line consisting of seniors
Rosie Witherell,
Lauren Fremgen, and
Karina Demirciyan and freshman
Emily Sheehan, the Tigers were able to keep the ball clear. As strong as our defense played, when Suffolk was able to get through, keeper
Samantha Berger was there making huge saves all game. Despite our strong defense and goalie, Suffolk was able to close in and capitalize on two shots, leaving the score at 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Tigers came out tough and ready to bring it to the Sharks, scoring early off a corner from Fremgen, center mid-fielder
Stephanie Dootz kept the Tigers in the game. The defense was able to hold Suffolk at bay refusing to let them have a chance on net, and clearing the ball up to our midfielders. With both outside midfielders,
Meagan Hilton and Monica Guerrera, not only playing great defensively but also making great runs, they were faced with great opportunities to attack. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to capitalize on all the opportunities presented and the final score of the game was 2-1, Suffolk.
All in all it was a great game and both teams played tough. Even though the Tigers weren't able to come back with the win, it will just be motivation to work harder and improve. The Tigers will be playing their next game Sunday October 18 at 1 pm at Kingsborough CC where they will be facing KCC for their Senior game.
