Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Carrie Godas

Soccer is back above .500 with 15 Goals Scored This Weekend

(Brooklyn, NY) It was a perfect weekend for soccer and an even better weekend for the Tigers. Coming away with two wins, putting them back above .500, while they dominated the field against Borough of Manhattan CC and Kingsborough CC. The tigers enjoyed a both games this weekend as there was limited travel, the games were held at the Kingsborough Community College Soccer Field, which the tigers use as their home field.

The Tigers faced Kingsborough Saturday afternoon and took control from the start of the game. The girls really moved the ball well and were playing in KCC's defensive half for majority of the game. Both offensive freshmen, Kirsten Henning and Hunter Wellford, had three goals each, while center midfielder Stephanie Dootz scored off a corner kick taken by Lauren Fremgen. Fremgen also scored herself later on in the game. The girls had been on their A-game all day, and with a final score of 8-0, it showed.  Samantha Berger had a very light day as the defense only allow a single shot.

On Sunday, the Tigers went up against Borough of Manhattan for the second time this season. The girls kept the momentum going from the day before and dominated the field for 90 straight minutes. The score was 2-0 at the half with goals scored by Wellford and Dootz once again, however the Tigers came out hard in the second half, scoring another 5 goals. Center midfielder and Julianna Liberatore scored twice in the second half, along with Freshman Maria Menendez getting her first goal of her career. Later on in the half, there was a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick taken by defender Emily Sheehan who scored the final goal, resulting with an end score of 7-0.  The tigers defense once again shinned as they didn't allow a single shot on goal from the BMCC attack.  Berger earned her second shutout of the season.

"What can I say?  I am proud of the team.  I think we are finally hitting our stride, and peaking at the right time during the season.  Sam threw up two shutouts, and our defense allowed 1 shot in two games.  How could I not be please with how they are doing?  The offense is clicking, netting 15 goals, taking 76 shots.  We are moving the ball well, and working as a team.  As a coach I am very proud of them, I hope to keep this momentum going," said coach David Bevivino when asked to reflect on the weekend.

Overall it was a successful weekend for the Tigers, and the girls played great together as a team. However, the Tigers will continue to work hard all week in order to have another great weekend of wins. They will be facing Suffolk CC on Saturday at Kingsborough at 2pm and will play Sunday at 1pm as well where they will face Kingsborough CC for the Tigers Senior game.
