(Brooklyn, NY) The FIT Women's Soccer team headed to their home field this Saturday to take on Suffolk Community College. After previously suffering a loss from them the girls were eager to for the rematch. With lots of confidence and energy, the tigers were excited and ready to play. The girls came out strong and right from the beginning of the match the intensity was high.
Suffolk had a lucky opportunity and a ball got past the FIT defense and into the back of the net early into the game. Moments later forward,
Shelby Fender found herself on a break away and with a low hard shot, Fender equalized the game for the Tigers. The girls played the first half with lots of heart and aggression, with lots of fouls made from both teams, four yellow cards were given out to four FIT Tigers. Suffolk managed to soon score again, ending the half with a 1-2 score.
After regrouping during half time, the girls came out for the second with the same heart and determination as they in the first. They worked hard and played the ball well through the midfield, while also shutting down Suffolk's offense. With lots of chances and shots the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net. Growing frustrated the Tigers changed their formation and moved players up onto offense to try to help seize a goal. With minutes left however and a gap in the Tigers defense, Suffolk found the opportunity to get past the back line of FIT. A third goal was scored in the last minute of the game by Suffolk, ending the game with a 1-3 score.
Â
"Time was running out and we needed a goal" said head coach
David Bevivino, "we sent our defender
Rosie Witherell up to try to help out the offense. It's unfortunate how it worked out, but the girls played great and I don't believe the score reflects how they played"
Â
" When the girls get aggressive and cards are being brought up it's hard to keep composure, but the girls did well with the stress of the game and handled it well. I'm proud of them and we look forward to our game tomorrow" says assistant coach
Hugo Florez.

The girls take on Kingsborough Community College tomorrow for their last match of the season before play offs. They hope to leave and end the season with a win. The game will be at Kingsborough College at 1 pm.Â
