(Cumberland, NJ)This past weekend the FIT Women's soccer team had their first victory as they traveled south to Cumberland New Jersey. The girls worked hard and played well as a team to achieve their victory and get their first win of the season.
"It was great to see the girls come together in their first game, I was really happy to see their hard work from pre-season pay off" says the head coach of the team D.J Bevivino. " I'm really proud of how well they played!" The girls stepped up as a team and scored eight outstanding goals.
Cumberland came out strong in the beginning of the game and took on the challenge of only having a few substitutes. Goals were scored by
Hannah Rodriguez, Kiley Murphey,
Erika Renstrom,
KaylaAnn Hall, and captains
Katie Snyder,
Hayley Reid and Kate Snow.
Defensively, the Tiger's back line held firm earning freshman goalkeeper
Mariangela Filippone her first shut out. Led by captain
Darcey Lehman, the defense only allowed 2 shots on goal.
"We haven't played together on a full sized field yet this season, it was nice to see the team adapt and keep their spacing" commented first year assistant Coach
Sarah Cappy. All of the girls hustled through the heat and came through with their win of the season. The FIT tigers have a great and bright looking future for the rest of their season.
The Women's Soccer team is looking forward to their next game Saturday at 12pm as they travel to Kingsborough CC.
