Sunday, October 15th
The Tigers headed into this past weekend facing road games on three consecutive days against Queensborough CC, Suffolk CC and Five Towns College.
On Friday, October 13th, the Tigers traveled to Bayside to take on the Queensborough CC Tigers. The weather was sunny and breezy as the teams took the pitch at four in the evening, ready to play each other for the first time this season in a Region 15 showdown. Within minutes, the Tigers notched their first goal of the game with Alexis Kufta scoring off a corner kick from senior captain Grace Cooper. It wouldn't be long before Michelle Muratore would score another goal for the Tigers off a cross from Hailey Wolfman. With Wolfman hungry for more points, she too would score a goal assisted by Muratore.
To wrap the half, the Tigers scored another two goals, one by Lissandra Micera, and another by Massai Salazar. Micera's goal was assisted by none other than Kufta, and Salazar's goal was assisted by Cooper. The start of the second half was no different than the first, with the Tigers scoring again within minutes. Dynamic duo Kufta and Salazar connected yet again, with Kufta scoring. Two more goals would be scored to finish the game, with Salazar and Kufta combining passes to Micera, who scored her second goal of the game. Dohyun Park rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the season assisted by Kiley Cacace cementing the Tiger's impressive 8-0 victory to start the weekend.
Next on Saturday, the Tigers headed to Suffolk CC for a big game against #6 ranked Suffolk CC to face the Sharks for the second time this season. As had been the case the past two Staurdays, it was another rainy day but Tigers have used to playing in wet conditions so the Tigers were not phased by the weather, and are conditioned to play in any kind. The pre-game excitement was contagious all the way through warm ups to the kick off of the game. The Tigers connected pass after pass throughout the field, with the intensity high. The first thirteen minutes remained scoreless with opportunities coming from both sides. Ultimately the Sharks opened the scoring with a goal in the thirteenth minute. FIT shook it off and were fired up to get a goal of their own. A mere five minutes later, they would do just that, with a beautiful cross from Michelle Muratore to Alexis Kufta who found the back of the net. The first half ended with the score knotted at 1-1.
The Tigers came out for the second half just as fired up as they finished the first, battling through the difficult weather and field conditions. Most of the second half would pass before either team scored again, the score remaining tied at 1-1 until the seventy-ninth minute of the game. Yet again, Kufta and Massai Salazar would connect on a beautiful play with Salazar firing a goal into the net. The Tigers now led the game 2-1 with eleven minutes to play. They fought hard to maintain possession, challenging the Sharks over and over. In the eighty-second minute, through an unfortunate turn of events, the Tigers scored an own goal, now leveling the game at 2-2. That would be the final goal of the game, so the Tigers settled for a draw, but were happy about the ebay they played. These two top teams in the region hope to see each other again in playoffs, which begin on Saturday, October 21st.
For their third game in three consecutive days, the Tigers traveled to Five Towns College to take on the Seagulls on Sunday, October 15th. It was a chilly day at the noontime kickoff for the Tigers' last regular season game in 2023. October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness month, so this game was also played to honor that, with both teams wearing pink as representation. As any Tigers' fan could imagine, this game was played with heart. Kufta and Salazar would connect countless times throughout the game, both notching points on the scoreboard. The first half wrapped up with Muratore and Shaw also joining the scoring.
The second half began as a continuation of the first, with the Tigers dominating possession throughout the field. Senior captain and goalkeeper Josie Whitt would make some great saves, ultimately leading to yet another shutout. The remaining goals were scored by Micera, Salazar, and Kufta, leading the Tigers to an impressive 7-0 victory.
All totalled, the Tigers scored 17 goals while only allowing 2 goals during all three games which was an impressive way to end the regular season. The Tigers are primed to host for their next matchup on their home field in Kingsborough CC (Brooklyn, NY) for a Region 15 Semifinal playoff game against the Nassau CC Lions on October 21st at 12pm. The winner will advance to the Region 15 Championship game on Saturday, October 28th to face the winner of the other semifinal matchup featuring the BMCC Panthers and the Suffolk Sharks with a chance to go to the National Championship Tournament on the line.
Come out and cheer on your team! GO TIGERS!!
