Tigers Travel to Rowan
Saturday September 10th
The Tigers traveled to Rowan College of South Jersey (Gloucester County) for their third non-region game of the season against the Roadrunners of the NJCAA Region 19. Despite coming into the game with several injuries still lingering from previous games and Natalia Cobos suffering an unfortunate ankle injury during warmups prior to kickoff, the Tigers began the first half with upbeat attitudes ready for the game. Aurora Foberg, Jade Saad, and Jieun Yoon held a strong defense against the Roadrunners who came out with an aggressive offensive attack constantly challenging the Tigers' back line. During the first half, freshman Ivelisse Vargas held off several Rowan runs with excellent recoveries to slow down the attack. However, the Roadrunners were able to capitalize on a key opportunity finding the back of the net on corner kick to start the scoring and then trailed by a score of 2-0 entering the half.
During halftime, the team reassessed their opponent and thought about how to change the pace of the game. With the Tigers knowing what to expect for the second half, they refined their play to be smarter, quicker, and with great communication. The Tigers fought hard on the field and were able to move the ball up holding possession in the middle early in the second half. Michelle Muratore made several runs with 100% effort, working together with Captain Grace Cooper and fellow freshman Karlee Skodosky who played in central positions throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners attack eventually wore down the Tigers momentum and regaining the possession battle, Rowan managed to score four more goals off during the second half to earn a 6-0 victory.
The Tigers will take this game as a learning experience and come out ready to take on their next competitors on Saturday September 17th at 3pm vs Ulster Community College to take place at Rondout CValley High School in Accord, NY
