The women's soccer team played their last game of the regular season this past weekend, against the Senators of Ulster County Community College. The Tigers won 3-0, shutting out the opponents in an impressive victory!
Early on in the first half, GK Brooke Singer made a great save on a breakaway, shutting down a key opportunity for Ulster to take control of momentum early. Singer also stopped the other 5 shots that came her way later in the game to complete her first complete game shutout of the season. Ulster's defense held strong against many good scoring attempts by FIT for the rest of the first 45 minutes with the score being knotted at 0 at the half.
But the second half was all FIT. The Tigers stepped up the energy and kept the pressure up on the Senators owning the ball in the attack zone for most of the second half. FIT fired a barrage of 32 shots during the game, with 19 shots on target. Ulster goaltender Sierra Barbiani played impressively, stopping 16 shots but she could not stop them all. The first FIT goal which proved to be the game winner was scored by Mary Addison Davis, with the assist from fellow sophomore Aubrey Bethon at 47:13. Also scoring for the Tigers later in the second half were Gabrielle D'Elia (assisted by Katlyn Macke at 56:05) and icing the victory was Noreen Hofving (assisted by Gabrielle D'Elia at 61:03.)
The beautiful Rondout Valley High School soccer field and fall scenery as a backdrop was the perfect setting for FIT's last regular season game, after which FIT's 6 "seniors" (players who were finishing their playing career with FIT) were honored: Aubrey Bethon, Maria Bonfilio, Mary Addison Davis, Garbielle D'Elia, Ava Mankoo and Zoie Stewart. Next up for the revitalized Tiger soccer team will be the Region 15 semifinal matchup against the Lions of Nassau Community College on Wednesday, October 27th at 12:30pm at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY. Come cheer on your TIgers against their Regional rivals in this big playoffs game! Let's go Tigers!
