Volleyball Goes Undefeated at CCRI TournamentÂ
Saturday 9/14
FIT Women's Volleyball started off their weekend against the Massasoit Warriors. Captain, Stephanie Berdon lead the Tiger's in assists with 13 assists while redshirt sophomore Clarissa McNeil lead the team's offense with 5 kills. Defensively, Captain libero, Jenna Butler picked up 10 digs. Tigers accumulated 12 service aces, winning the match in 3: 25-9, 25-12, 25-18.Â
Tigers played back to back, match two against the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill. Berdon and freshman Amber Diaz both ran the Tiger's offense with 12 assists each. Tiger's player of the week, Lauren Miksits lead the team's offense with 7 kills along with freshman, Carly Gallagher with 5. The team accumulated 11 aces, finding victory of the Bulldogs in 3: 25-10, 25-21, 25-8.
For the last match of the day Tiger's competed against Northern Essex Knights. Tigers accumulated 8 Team aces with Diaz running the offense with 15 assists and Miksits with 9 kills. Tigers won their last match in 3:Â Â 25-19, 25-18, 25-5.Â
Sunday (9/15)
Tigers went round two with the Massasoit Warriors to start day two of the CCRI Tournament. Berdon lead the offense with 13 assists and 8 kills. Diaz and Gallagher added on to the Tiger's offense with 9 assists (Diaz) and 8 kills (Gallagher). Butler held it down the defense in the back-row with 6 digs while together the Tigers accumulated 13 aces and 19 digs. Tiger's won their first match on Sunday against the Massasoit Warriors in 3: 25-12, 25-13, 25-20.
Tigers faced Northern Essex Knights for the second time on Sunday, Berdon leading the team with 9 aces and 7 assists. Miksits found her self 5 kills, taking charge at the net. Tigers gained 16 team aces, winning the match in 3: 25-11, 25-5, 25-11.
For the last match of the Tournament Tigers took on the CCRI Knights. Berdon put up 15 assists with 6 kills from Gallagher and 5 kills from Miksits and McNeil.Â
Butler, Gallagher, and freshman, Bruna Dasilva all accumulating 6 digs each. Tigers did a phenomenal job in working for 22 team digs and 10 team service aces, working to gain their last win in 3: 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.
Some of the Tigers were asked to look back on this weekend and they added the following:
Jenna Butler stated, "We're always encouraging each other, we really play like a family."
Megan Kelly, "We really came together as a team on and off the court. We bonded as a team and really showed on the court. This trip has bought trust upon us and will help us grow together. I am excited to see how far we will go this season, after our results of this weekend."
Lauren Miksits, "I think overall the team bonded and worked together really well on the court this weekend. If we were down or stuck everyone was good at keeping the energy up and staying focused! I'm excited to see where this season takes us!"
Carly Gallagher, "One thing that this team has is trust in each other. Trust that our passers will get the ball and our hitters will get it over the net. That's something that'll be a catalyst to our victories in our upcoming games."
Stephanie Berdon, "I thought that the team played to the potential that we have been seeing at practice so far this season, which is amazing. We have great players all around and they all brought their A game to the table. The team came with immense energy on and off the court, which was a huge factor to our victory. This tournament allowed us to all bond and get to know each other a little more that lead us to trust each other more on and off the court. I think we all had an amazing time sharing these moments with each other and I am so excited to see what is ahead of us this season!"
Tigers are back on their home court Thursday, September 19th against Bronx Community College.Â
