Tuesday, October 8th, the FIT Tigers took to Pier 40 to play The Borough of Manhattan Community College Blue Panthers, at 12:30 pm. Refining their play based from previous years, the Tigers made a few changes to their starting lineup.
Ava Mankoo gloved up and hopped in net for her team, and Captain
Sarah Iannella returned to the field at almost 100% health. The BMCC Blue Panthers came out as aggressive as expected, but this did not hinder the play of the Tigers. They spent the first half setting the tone for the game, and making it known that the Blue Panthers were not going to push and shove their way through to our net. The first goal for the Tigers came in the first five minutes of the game, with
Gabrielle D'Elia passing the ball to
Haley Tarazona through the Blue Panther's defense to Captain
Gabrielle L'Insalata who was able to find the net. It was only up from here, with L'Insalata scoring three goals, as well as D'Elia scoring three goals all by the end of the first half. The Tigers ended the first half 6-0.
During half time, the BMCC coaching staff requested to end the game after 30 minutes in the second half, as they had many injuries, and no substitutes for the rest of the game. While the Tigers' coaching staff was disappointed that the game had to be cut early, they understood. The second half started with the Blue Panthers frustrated and tired. This led to a multitude of fouls, player interactions, yellow cards, and penalty kicks awarded to the Tigers. After 30 minutes, the Tigers finished the game winning 7-0. After twenty minutes into the second half D'Elia was able to find
Gianna Nepola who then passed the ball along to
Morgan Smith to finish the game off with 7 goals for the Tigers and a shut out for Mankoo.
The Tigers finished this game with their heads held high, and a new excitement for the upcoming games. The coaching staff couldn't have been more proud of their team; between the level of play, skill set shown, and chemistry built leading up to this win. The Tigers will take the rest of the week preparing for their upcoming games this weekend against Monroe Community College, and Kingsborough Community College, Saturday and Sunday respectively. These games will determine the playoff qualifications for the Tigers, and are the last two region games of the 2019 season.
