Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Tigers Split Matches at BMCC

The FIT volleyball team traveled to Bourough of Manhattan Community College on Saturday to play the hosts BMCC and Bronx CC. In their first match, the Tigers were off to a slow start. With the BMCC Panthers leading by three for most of the first set, FIT struggled to regain the lead, and lost the first set 21-25. Fired up and ready to bounce back, the Tigers came out swinging in the second set, taking a 8-2 lead. A 12 point service run by libero Jenna Butler helped pace the Tigers through the rest of the set. FIT stayed aggressive into the third set with 9 team kills. The Tigers took both the second and third sets 25-12 and 25-17. BMCC was not ready to finish the game, and went into the fourth set looking for a win. Between FIT's unforced errors and some well placed attacks by BMCC, the Panthers quickly took a 10-3 lead. FIT struggled to dig themselves out of the hole and lost set four 16-25. Set five was neck and neck between the two teams looking for their first conference win. Both teams fought tough until the finish, but BMCC found themselves on top in the end with a 16-14 win. Setter Megan Kelly finished the match with a team high 19 assists and 9 kills, and Jenna Butler led the Tigers' defense with 18 digs and 6 aces. Tigers fall 2-3 to Panthers. (21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 16-25, 14-16)

Later in the day, the Tigers faced the Bronx Community College Broncos. Although tired from their first match, FIT was able to sweep the Broncos 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14). The Tigers found a way to stay aggressive, finishing the match with a total of 12 team aces. Sophomore Paige Truncale led the serving with 3 aces and a 12 point run in the third set. Freshman Stephanie Berdon ran her offense, dishing out 12 assists, and Freshman Megan Kelly finished the match with 11 kills.

The Tigers (3-1) return to play on Monday at Rarritan Valley CC at 5:00 pm and Tuesday at Monroe (New Rochelle) at 7:00 pm.
