(Kingsborough, NY) This weekend the Tigers set out to play the Suffolk county Sharks and the Borough of Manhattan Panthers. Although the weather was not ideal for a great weekend to be outside, it did not stop the Tigers from playing hard against both teams on Saturday and Sunday.
To start the weekend, the Sharks came to the FIT Tigers home field for an intense game. Both teams came out hard and it started off as a back and forth game, however, it later became a much more defensive game for the Tigers as injuries once again plagued the team. Although the Sharks were able to capitalize on a shot half way through the first half, Goalie, senior captain
Stephanie Roberts, made amazing saves throughout the entirety of the game, and kept the Tigers in it. Come half time, the score was 1-0, with the Sharks in the lead, but after the half the Tigers came out strong. They began controlling the ball and creating more opportunities on goal. Unfortunately, Center midfielder,
Halie Retterath already playing through a leg injury, was injured again taking a hit to the head, during a corner kick taken by freshman,
Claire Anvelt, causing her to be out for the rest of the game. Shortly after, a foul in the midfield gave the Tigers another opportunity on frame. The free kick was taken by
Tabitha Sloane who took a great shot on net, with forward, Katie Reicker, following up her shot and capitalizing on the dropped ball by the goalie, making the score 1-1. Although Reicker was able to find the net, she did however, suffer from a wrist injury in the process. With neither team being able to score before the end of the game, it forced the teams into overtime. An additional two 10 minute halves were added, ending upon the first goal to be scored. The first 10 minute half was a back and forth challenge with neither team finding the back of the net. During the second 10 minute half, however, the Suffolk Sharks capitalized on an opportunity and the game ended with the final score being 2-1.
Sunday's game, the Tigers faced the BMCC Panthers for the second time this season, at their home field. With the Tigers facing many injuries and a tough game from the day prior, the girls were still able to come out and play hard. The game was a continuous back and forth battle between the two teams, and it was a tough game for both. There was a brief scuffle in the front of our net blocking our goalies sight of the ball, which led to the Panthers getting a successful shot on net, making the score 1-0 at half time. The second half continued the back and forth throughout the rest of the game, and neither team was able to find the net successfully, and the game ended with the final score being 1-0, Panthers.
The Tigers will face their final games of the season this weekend at KCC October 15, facing North Country CC and October 16, where they will face Kingsborough CC for the Tigers' senior game.
