(New York, NY) It was another pressing weekend for the Tigers, as they took the court for the third time at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. This particular court was starting to feel more and more like home, and as the Tigers remembered their past wins there, their train gained momentum, and they were able to push to several victories over the entire weekend.
The first game the Tigers faced SUNY Ulster. Ulster had a hot roster, and was certainly bringing the heat. The first set started out a bit rocky for the Tigers. With a few passing errors and a few loose serves getting past them, the Tigers fell to Ulster (26,24).Â
Going into the second set, FIT knew they had tighten the screws if they wanted to make this one out alive. A strong volley, put them ahead early on. They kept their focus on communicating with each other and took the win, (25,13).Â
Moving on to the third and fourth sets, the Tigers completely dominated Ulster. A solid defense and aggressive offense lead the Tigers to seal both sets shut, winning (25,18), (25,18).
Taj Cutting lead the team with 12 kills, while teammate Darena Reylea followed with 6 kills and zero errors.
All the way from Poughkeepsie, NY, the Falcons from Dutchess Community College, awaited their turn to swoop in and ruin the Tigers winning streak. But excellent defense and a brick wall of blocking gave the Tigers a leg up, and another win to their streak. They took over (25,19).
In the second set, the Tigers only let 11 points slide past them, and coming up victorious. On to the third set, FIT had a consistent stream of serves, and buried the Falcons (25,12). Sophomore stud
Jenna Dickey lead the team tallying 8 kills, and Venessa Benish served 7 perfect aces. This is more aces than we have seen from Benish all season. Keep up the good work, Tiger!
The Tigers finished 6-1 for the weekend, setting them 13-9 for the season. Head Coach
Danial Levent quoted after the game, "It is evident to me that these women have truly come together to find their groove. It is the camaraderie and teamwork that these women create in practice and games every time they get on the court together that will make them successful. We are on our way. There is a lot of work to be done before tournament season, but we will be ready. I know no doubt."
