Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Megan Houff

Tigers Take on Rhode Island

(Lincoln, RI) FIT volleyball traveled to Lincoln, Rhode Island this weekend for a tournament hosted by Division II, Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).  Saturday tested the Tigers' endurance as they played four games without a break. The team first took on Division II, Genesee who placed second behind FIT in last year tournament. The early match proved difficult for FIT, losing both sets the Geneses: 15 to 25 and 13 to 25. Note that all tournament play was best sets out of three, rather than the traditional 3 sets won out of 5. The day improved from there, with two wins against Division II CCRI and Division II Bunker Hill Community College and one loss against the New Haven Technical Institute. Freshman Jenna Dickey posted 23 kills for the day with sophomore outside hitter, Nathalie Albersmyer, right behind her with 19 kills and 37 digs. Sophomore setter Michelle Vainblat handed out 56 assists throughout the day.

Sunday was bittersweet for the Tigers as they won their first match of the day against Bunker Hill Community College in two sets, 25-10 and 25-4, which earned them a spot in the play offs. FIT then had to face Genesee, the number one seed after Saturday's pool play in the first round of the play-offs. Genesee quickly proved why they were seeded first, winning the match in 3 sets. Note that for playoffs play format returned to the normal 3 sets out of 5. Vainblat added 29 more assists to her record 13 of which were from Dickey and 10 for Albersmyer. The defense was held down by sophomore libero Alison Tyler, with a total of 15 digs and freshman right side hitter Julia Corbett, with 8 digs. Overall, this weekend was a great chance for the Tigers to sharpen their skills against multiple division II teams while getting plenty of touches on the ball and a great deal of time on the court before diving into the heart of league play.
