Smooth Sailing for FIT Volleyball

(New York, NY) The Tigers added three wins to their record this weekend, one Saturday against Union Community College at FIT and two Sunday against Rockland and Westchester Community College. FIT consistently dominated most of the match on Saturday, winning in three sets against Union, all of which finished at 25-19. Sophomore outside hitter, Nathalie Albersmyer, led the Tigers offense with 11 kills. Albersmyer followed closely by freshmen outside hitter Jenna Dickey and right side hitter Julia Corbett who both earned 9 kills each with the help of sophomore setter Michelle Vainblat, who had 32 assists. Dickey, Albersmyer, and Corbett all locked down FIT's defense with 24, 12 and 12 digs respectively.

The Tigers performed like a well run machine during Sunday's matches racking up two more wins effortlessly. FIT won against Rockland in three quick sets 25-8, 25-9 and 25-11. Albersymer again led the team with 12 kills and 13 digs while Jenna Dickey and Julia Corbett finished with 7 and 6 kills, respectively. However, it was FIT's superior serving that won them this game as setter Michelle Vainblat had 6 aces with Dickey and Albersmyer closely behind with 5 aces each. The Tigers carried their winning momentum into their second match against Westchester also winning in three sets, 25-13, 25-13, 25-14. Serving once again played a large part in the Tigers' sweeping victory; Julia Corbett led the team with 8 aces. Dickey reasserted herself as the head of the Tigers' offense with 12 kills, Albersmyer and Corbett stayed closely behind with 7 kills each and freshmen middle blocker Darinia Relyea earned 5 kills and 8 digs. Overall, this weekend showed exceptional growth for the Tigers as a team. Their excellent control of the court is coming just in time for the end of league play where they will face their toughest competition yet.
