October 11th

This past Saturday, Oct 8th was a special day for the FIT Tigers with four teams in action that day, each bringing home a W!!!!

Cross Country 11am:

First up, Cross Country competed in the NJIT Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ.  Sophomore Andrea Distefano improved more than 7 minutes from her previous 6k mark, coming in with a 21:25 finish.  Freshman Elizabeth Song was the second finisher for the women's team crossing the line with a time of 24:29  Although the Tigers didn't have enough runners to score as a team, this was a victory for team members who improved on their times as they prepare for the National Championship race!

Women's Volleyball 12pm:

Next, Volleyball traveled to Nassau CC for a double dual.  Playing extremely short-handed with only 6 players allowed no margin for error, injury or fatigue… but that didn't stop the Tigers!  In the first match versus Nassau CC, Madison Nguyen led offensively with 10 kills and an impressive .421 hitting percentage while Cassidy Stone distributed 26 assists.  A total team effort producing 26 aces and 30 digs spread evenly across all 6 players lead the team to an impressive 3-0 WIN against a perennially tough Region 15 opponent. 

Women's Tennis 12pm:

At the same time, the Women's Tennis team was taking on Suffolk CC in a head to head match. Freshmen Frederica Marlow and Margaet Gonas each won their singles flight matches while sophomores Devin Rotunno and Sophia Pisane teamed up to win their 2nd doubles match helping the Tigers earn a very close 5-4 victory and FIT's SECOND WIN of the day!

Women's Volleyball 2:30pm

Meanwhile back at Nassau CC, after getting a decent amount of time to rest between matches thanks to their prior 3-0 victory, the Volleyball team took on Hostos CC and coasted to another 3-0 W.  FIT's THIRD WIN of the day was sparked by sophomore Maya Burke who led the team with a .385 hitting percentage and 8 digs.  Despite playing two entire matches with no subs, the Volleyball team managed to win both 3-0 without giving up any more than 19 points in any one set! This victory brings the Tigers win streak to 5 in a row with a big Senior Night match against cross town rivals BMCC this Thursday, Oct 13th at 7pm right here in the FIT Gym! Come out and cheer on your FIT Tiger seniors in this pivotal Region 15 match! 

Women's Soccer 6:30pm:

Finally, in FIT's third match of the day at Nassau CC, the Soccer team took on the NCC Lions under the lights on the Mitchel Athletic Complex turf field.  The Tigers controlled the ball most of the time against the short-handed NCC team who only fielded 11 players, but could not find many scoring opportunities against Nassau's strong defensive effort.  Very strong play by FIT's midfield and defense kept the ball out of Nassau's offensive zone most of the game and limited Nassau's offense to only a couple of scoring threats.  Knotted at 0-0 for most of the game, it wasn't until late in the second half when Freshman Lissandra Micera broke the tie by scoring the game's only goal to win the game for Tigers and to cap off the night by giving FIT their FOURTH WIN of the day and a perfect 4-0 record in a single day.  So far, the Soccer team has amassed a very impressive 4-1-3 overall record, 3-0 in Region 15 play.  The Tigers head into their biggest challenge of the season on their Senior Day this coming Saturday, October 15th at Suffolk CC (Selden, NY campus) with a 1pm kickoff.  Come down and support your seniors and the FIT Tiger Soccer team in this match which will likely determine which will finish 1st place in the Region!
